COVID-19: Property Taxes
Question: Property TaxesIs the City going to continue to charge property taxes while all of this is happening?Yes, but for those that have not set up pre-authorized payments, there is a 60-day grace period in place backdated to March 16th. This does not change the amount that is due, but it gives those who pay in-person at the bank additional time to pay. This grace period is subject to further changes and dependent on how the COVID-19 situation continues to unfold. For property owners who have submitted post-dated cheques, those will be held and not cashed until 60 days after the original instalment due date – for example, post-dated cheques intended for the April 1 instalment will be cashed on June 1. Any other post-dated cheques received before May 1, 2020 will be held for a period of 60 days from the date of the cheque before being cashed. If you have questions about the Pre-Authorized Tax Payment Program, give my office a call at: (416) 338-5335 and we can help you.You can also call #311 or the City of Toronto's Tax & Utility Inquiry Line: 416-392-0719.
