Provincial Update: Ontario Announces Regional Approach for Stage 2 Reopening
Provincial Update: Ontario Announces Regional Approach for Stage 2 Reopening The Ontario government has announced that it is moving forward with a regional approach to Stage 2 of reopening the province. As of Friday, June 12, 2020 at 12:01 a.m., many regions in Ontario will be allowed to enter stage 2 of the economic recovery, which includes access to restaurant patios, malls, salons, outdoor pools, beaches, and camping sites. Toronto is not one of the regions moving forward to Stage 2 at this time and will remain in Stage 1. As of Friday, June 12, 2020 at 12:01 AM:
- The province will increase the limit on social gatherings from five to 10 people across the province, including Toronto.
- Child care centres will be allowed to re-open province-wide with some restrictions, including Toronto.
- Additionally, all places of worship in Ontario will also be permitted to open with physical distancing measures in place and attendance limited to no more than 30 per cent occupancy, including Toronto.
As businesses and activities reopen and people interact more, we will likely see more COVID-19 activity, even if we all diligently follow our public health guidance. Physical distancing will continue to be part of our lives for the foreseeable future, or until we have a treatment or a vaccine.
