Flooding Protection and Prevention - We want to hear from you

I know that this year’s heavy rainfall events have strongly impacted communities in Ward 7; especially those who live near the Black Creek Watershed. In my tenure as Councillor, I have long advocated for necessary infrastructure upgrades to keep up with climactic events which will continue to happen with increasing frequency due to climate change.

For those in the riding who have experienced flooding, I am looking to better understand the impact of recent precipitation events on our water system. If you or someone you know in Ward 7 has been affected, please fill out the form on the page adjacent with relevant details.

I would also like to inform residents that the City of Toronto's Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy offers relief to households looking to protect themselves from flooding. Owners of a single-family, duplex, triplex or fourplex residential home can apply online for a subsidy of up to $3,400 per property to install flood protection devices. Eligible work includes: installation of a backwater valve; installation of a sump pump; severance and capping of a home’s storm sewer or external weeping tile connection. Click here for more information.

Toronto Water is also launching a public consultation on opportunities for new and expanded stormwater management incentives for private properties. It aims to gather feedback on existing and potential grants, subsidies or rebates for installing green infrastructure like permeable surfaces, rain gardens or bioswales, and for actions that reduce flooding risks.
