Take BAC13 Project

The YMCA Employment & Newcomer Programs located at Dufferin /Finch Ave. W. will be undertaking a project in the Westminster- Branson area and we would like to give youth the opportunity to participate.The Project is called Take BAC 13 (BAC stands for Beautiful and Clean) and the 13 represents the 13 “priority” neighbourhoods involved in the project. This project will showcase the “stars” in our community who take leadership roles by rolling up their sleeves to make a real difference.The project is in partnership with the City of Toronto, Toronto Police Services, Parks and Trees Foundation and Evergreen. The objective is to clean and beautify Toronto; make a greener Toronto; make a safe city safer; and create a inclusive and diverse city while creating opportunities for youth.We are looking for the “stars” in your neighbourhood to join our team. We will be selecting (6) youth, in total, on a first come, first serve basis. Deadlines are tight and we need to get planning and get this project started. Requirements are as follows:o Youth will need to be between the ages of 13-17 yrs. oldo Available atleast 10 hours a week (6 weeks)o Attend a weekly group life skills session (4 weeks)o $300 honorarium will be awarded at the end of the projectA closing celebration will be held on the 14th of August. All projects in the 13 allocated neighbourhoods will be judged based on Creativity, visible positive impact on the community, and ease of maintenance. (2) of the 13 neighbourhoods will be awarded $500 to continue with their projects.We are inviting the youth that you work with to participate in this great opportunity and will be accepting letters of interest from all eligible youth up until Monday, June 25th, 2008. This letter should include name, age, contact information and an idea about what you can do to make your community beautiful (example- planting trees, community gardens, art displays in or around a particular area, etc.) The options are endless; we encourage you to use your creativity to help drive this project. Please use additional paper if necessary.Important: members involved in this project will be able to use the hours banked to wards their community hours for high school.
