Cancel Property Tax IncreasesSeniors can apply to cancel their property tax increases. Seniors and people with disabilities whosehousehold income is less than $36,000 annually can apply to have their property tax increases cancelled.“One of the few proposed changes to the city’s $8.7 billion operating budget that stuck during uesday’s debate was Councillor Anthony Perruzza’s motion to raise the household-income threshold to qualify for the cancellation program.”TORONTO STAR2. 20 % Water RebateSeniors can apply to have 20% of their annual water bill rebated. Seniors and people with disabilitieswhose household income is less than $50,000 and use less than 400 cubic metres of water can apply to have 20% of their annual water bill rebated.Councillor Perruzza’s successful motion in 2009 increased the application water consumption eligibility to 400 cubic metres allowing many more seniors to now apply for this program.3. Eliminate Vehicle Tax For SeniorsThe City of Toronto’s Vehicle Registration Tax is scheduled for elimination beginning in 2011 for seniors and/or disabled who earn less than $50,000.During this year’s budget debate Councillor Perruzza co-authored the following motion which won City Council approval: “City Council direct the Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Ocer to develop an exemption from the Personal Vehicle Tax for residents who are over the age of 65 and/or disabled, and who have a gross income of less than $50,000, and to report to the Executive Committee with an implementation plan for the 2011 budget process.”
