Keep Jane Street Moving for Everyone

Road usage on Jane Street is reaching peak levels and is only set to increase as our communities grow. Right now, the TTC is proposing changes to Jane Street that I believe will make transportation harder for transit and all other users of the road.

The proposed changes include a reduction of current traffic lanes and the creation of a priority bus lane.

I am calling on all users of the road to demand decent transit options that benefit the entire community. We must invest in thoughtful, long-term solutions that can accommodate the volume of traffic we anticipate. Jane Street is an artery of the City.

Residents and users of Jane Street deserve a street that will allow transit to be fast, reliable and comfortable. As well drivers deserve a Jane Street that allows two full traffic lanes in either direction and cyclists and pedestrians deserve a Jane Street that has bike lanes and sidewalks in safe location off the road.

Will you sign?

Whereas the Jane Street bus carries 40,000 people daily;

Whereas the TTC has added 5 additional buses during peak hours to meet ridership demand at an additional cost of roughly 2 million dollars;

Whereas some bus stops are being removed in order for the TTC to make operational efficiencies along Jane Street;

Whereas the operational efficiencies being sought by the TTC would allow them to remove buses and reduce costs
Whereas the proposed changes provide no incremental benefit to either TTC riders or other users of Jane Street;

Therefore, be it resolved that Jane Street be widened to include an efficient, reliable, comfortable TTC service as well as allowing other users safe and full use of the road.
