The Plaza Hotel temporary shelter at 1677 Wilson Avenue has been a longstanding concern amongst locals. I have long expressed that this temporary solution is not a good fit for the neighbourhood and that a more suitable, sustainable solution must be urgently found for the clients housed here.
On two occasions, I have moved motions that would create an imminent plan to relocate the shelter. After a tour of the area with Police, City staff and affected locals that was followed up by a productive meeting with Shelter Staff, they are now fast-tracking the implementation of Paid Duty Police Officers to deal with Shelter issues. I will continue to push for a long-term strategy to remedy this problem and improve the area.
While this is a complicated issue which must be addressed as well by higher levels of government, I continue to advocate for the resources and changes necessary for the future of the area.
